Kinesis Edge
This prototype is a concept I’ve been wanting to put into motion for a while: a platformer where the player character has a sword which drains the kinetic energy from whatever it strikes.
One thing that I discovered when prototyping this is that such a weapon is really really powerful. The thought passed through my mind that with a blade that steals kinetic energy from anything, an enemy could toss a bus at you and you’d be just fine — which is about the time I began working on the evil robot buses.
If I were to make this into a full game, I’d probably need to make aerial combat a bit more complicated. Right now you damage anything you hit when you’re using your KE to fly around, but that means that as long as you keep hitting moving objects, you’re effectively invincible. Making this more complicated would make it more difficult to play, but it would serve a dual purpose of making the game more interesting and making things look a lot cooler: it’s one thing to fly into an enemy sword-in-hand, it’s another thing entirely to throw yourself off your sword as it flies through an enemy, catching it again as you fall.
